Okaidja Afroso ushers in a fresh breeze from the shores of Ghana’s Atlantic Gulf of Guinea, drawing from the ecological knowledge of the indigenous Ga-Dangme fishermen with “Jaku Mumor – Ancestral Spirit.” The power of nature-based rituals, and the connections that his ancestors had to the elements, particularly the ocean are showcased with Okaidja’s distinctive style, creating a contemporary African oral tradition. The project utilizes percussion, guitar, dance, native language vocals, film and fashion to tell the story.
